Flatbush Avenue Mural Project Awarded to Brooklyn Artist Katie Merz

Mural At 80 Flatbush is a work by Katie Merz made in collaboration with Brooklyn residents. The Project seeks to lend visibility to the disparate stories of the Brooklyn community. The work is made possible by the support of Alloy Development.

From the Artist:

My pre-process consists of gathering information from the neighborhoods at large.  I will walk, talk and engage people so that I can compile a rich and diverse dossier of gathered stories and information. I then translate this information into hieroglyphs that will be drawn over the surface of the buildings…I would like to have this work be a public reading by the kinetic, diverse, wily and changing populations of my beloved Brooklyn.  The purpose of this project is to generate a renewed sense of public cohesion by creating an art intervention around this epic Flatbush crossroads.
